Kiwok’s BodyKom is a mobile ECG monitoring solution that provides continuous, real-time heart data from patients in everyday settings, enabling up to 72 hours of secure monitoring and remote diagnostics. This improves early detection, reduces hospital visits, and supports personalized care, while clinicians benefit from timely alerts and better decision-making. To meet EU MDR requirements and ensure safe deployment, Kiwok partnered with TEF-Health via RISE Cyber Range for penetration testing of BodyKom’s firmware and communication protocols. The assessment revealed potential vulnerabilities and offered remediation guidance, strengthening cybersecurity, regulatory compliance, and adding value to product development and sales.

About KIWOK

Kiwok develops and offers solutions for remote patient monitoring (RPM). Initially we developed continuous long-term multi-channel ECG and we continue to be able to supplement solutions for other therapy areas through collaboration with other vendors.

The Challenge

Kiwok needed to validate the cybersecurity of BodyKom to comply with EU MDR and ensure safe deployment. They lacked internal resources for penetration testing and vulnerability assessment.

Cardiologists and clinicians often lack real-time data on patients' heart conditions, especially when patients are outside the hospital. This leads to delayed diagnosis and treatment.

Kiwok's BodyKom is a mobile ECG monitoring solution that enables continuous, real-time data transmission from patients in their everyday environments. It supports long-term monitoring (up to 72 hours), secure data communication, and remote diagnostics.

We got valuable insights into potential vulnerabilities and we have learned more about upcoming regulations. As a result we can now mitigate cyber security risks. These cyber security aspects also adds value in our development and sales.

Cyber Range is a test bed managed by RISE to build a virtual environment that is completely controlled and offer tools for creating stable and secure IT systems. The target group is both industry and the public sector.

Method description: RISE offers penetration testing of digital products and services (both pre- and post-release) with high secrecy and customized for the SME. Customers can test parts of a system to see if they have built it correctly and identify any weaknesses. Discussions are held directly with the customer to plan activities which should be included in the service.

Method reference: To be refined depending on the type of task, and in dialog with the customer. For example, testing at RISE Cyber Range facility.
